Inspired by the projects I created for my bonus class as part of the Simon Says Stamp Christmas in July event, I decided to keep the festive creativity going—this time at the sewing machine! I pulled out some of my favorite new Tim Holtz holiday fabrics, grabbed this wonderful drawstring bag pattern, and stitched up three adorable quilted gift bags that I cannot wait to use this holiday season.
These bags came together over a relaxing weekend afternoon, and they are just bursting with texture and charm. I even added some fun ruler ribbon for the drawstrings—such a perfect Tim Holtz touch!
One of my favorite features of these bags is their structure. I used fusible fleece for the exterior, quilting it for a bit of extra texture and stability, and lightweight fusible interfacing for the interior. This combo gives the bags just enough shape to stand on their own, even when they’re empty. Functional and fabulous!
I hope this little project inspires you to stitch up some handmade gift bags of your own. And don’t forget—these would look amazing paired with the gift tags you created from the Christmas in July class kit! Handmade touches like these make holiday gifting extra special.
